Manchester United Midfielder Suffers ACL Injury, Ruled Out For Rest of Season

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Manchester United midfielder Jack Moorhouse has suffered a major injury setback after being diagnosed with an ACL injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder sustained the injury while on loan at Dundee in Scotland, bringing his promising start with the club to an unfortunate halt.

Moorhouse had only recently joined Dundee on a season-long loan as part of his development. The Manchester United academy graduate had made two appearances for the Scottish club, featuring against Motherwell and Heart of Midlothian before the injury interrupted his progress.

Dundee manager Steven Pressley revealed that Moorhouse suffered the problem during a bounce game last week. The midfielder experienced swelling following the incident and subsequently returned to Manchester to undergo further medical examinations.

According to Pressley, the challenge that caused the injury did not initially appear to be particularly serious. However, subsequent scans confirmed damage to Moorhouse’s anterior cruciate ligament, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

Moorhouse had previously gained experience away from Old Trafford during a loan spell with Leyton Orient. He joined the League One club in August last year and went on to make 24 appearances before returning to Manchester United in January.

His move to Dundee was intended to provide him with regular first-team football and further experience. However, the ACL injury has now significantly disrupted those plans, with the midfielder facing a lengthy rehabilitation period.

Pressley expressed his disappointment over the situation, particularly because Dundee had worked hard to secure Moorhouse’s services and were expecting him to play an important role during the season.

The injury is also another concern for Dundee, as Moorhouse becomes the third player at the club to suffer an ACL problem within two months. Simon Murray and Fin Robertson had previously suffered similar injuries.

For Manchester United, Moorhouse’s setback adds to a growing list of players currently unavailable. Benjamin Sesko is dealing with another shin problem, while Amad Diallo is nearing a return.

Matthijs de Ligt continues his recovery from back surgery, while Manuel Ugarte remains sidelined after suffering a knee injury during the World Cup. Patrick Dorgu has also picked up a fresh injury, with Luke Shaw still facing doubts over his availability.

Moorhouse will now begin the long rehabilitation process as he works towards making a full recovery. Manchester United are expected to monitor his progress closely throughout his rehabilitation.
