Kidnappers sentenced to death in Edo State

Justice Aigbona Momodu of the Edo State Special Criminal Court has sentenced convicted kidnapper Marvelous Isaac to death over his involvement in kidnapping-related offences in the state.

Justice Momodu delivered the judgment during proceedings reported by Channels Television on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The court sentenced Isaac to seven years in prison on the first count of the charge.

However, Isaac was handed the death penalty on counts two through nine after the court found him guilty of the offences contained in those charges.

While delivering the judgment, Justice Momodu ordered that the death sentence be carried out either by hanging or through the administration of a lethal injection, in accordance with the court’s ruling.

The judge stated that Isaac would serve seven years imprisonment on the first count, while counts two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and nine each attracted the death penalty. She concluded the pronouncement by saying, “May the Lord have mercy on you.”

The judgment means Isaac received a custodial sentence on the first count, while the remaining eight counts resulted in a death sentence.

The case was heard by the Edo State Special Criminal Court as part of its proceedings involving kidnapping and other serious criminal offences. The sentence followed the conclusion of the case against Isaac and the court’s determination of the appropriate punishment for each count.
