VP Ndejembi hails maternal and newborn health services at Mount Meru Hospital

ARUSHA: VICE President Deogratius Ndejembi has visited Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital in Arusha to assess the provision of healthcare services and hear the challenges facing patients and hospital staff.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the Vice President was received by hospital leaders and staff, who briefed him on the facility’s development, performance and services before he toured various wards and spoke with patients receiving treatment.

Addressing patients admitted to the hospital, Ndejembi expressed sympathy for their health conditions and conveyed greetings from President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

He assured them that the government would continue to prioritise the health sector and improve the quality of services provided at health facilities across the country.

While visiting the maternity ward, the Vice President expressed satisfaction at seeing mothers who had safely delivered their babies and were in good health, alongside their healthy newborns.

He said the government would continue strengthening maternal and child healthcare as part of efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality.

Ndejembi said the efforts are in line with President Samia’s commitment to ensuring that quality and safe reproductive health services reach women and children across the country, as well as her role in advancing the agenda to reduce maternal and child deaths across Africa.

During the visit, the Vice President also had an opportunity to speak directly with some patients about the healthcare services being provided at the hospital.
