She Had A Crush On Me Shadrack Sibiya Blames 16-year-Old Girl Father For Explicit Video

Suspended deputy national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has made a series of claims in court regarding allegations involving a 16-year-old girl, including his assertion that the teenager had a crush on him.

Sibiya appeared before the Randburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 29 September, as his bail application continued. He faces five charges including rape human trafficking, sexual grooming and promoting the grooming of a child. He has indicated that he intends to plead not guilty.

According to Sibiya account his involvement with the teenager began after her father whom he described as an associate contacted him about an explicit video involving his daughter.

Sibiya told the court that the father had allegedly received the video and forwarded it to him while expressing concern about its contents. He claimed the father also told him that the teenager had a crush on him.

Sibiya further alleged that the teenager later confirmed that she appeared in the video but did not know how her father had obtained it. He claimed she subsequently sent him similar material after asking him to investigate the matter.

The state version differs substantially. Prosecutors allege that Sibiya communicated with the teenager through WhatsApp between July and August and engaged in sexually explicit communications with her. The charge sheet further alleges that he possessed and distributed explicit images involving the child and persuaded her to send additional videos.

Sibiya has rejected the allegations describing the case as baseless and trumped up. He has also questioned why the Commission Recommendations Task Team became involved in the investigation.

The state is opposing bail while Sibiya has asked to be released on bail of R20,000. The bail proceedings have been postponed until Thursday, 1 October.

The allegations remain before court and Sibiya has not been convicted of any offence.
