Punjab imposes 30-day ban on outdoor drone flights

The Punjab Home Department has imposed a 30-day ban on outdoor drone flights across the province under Section 144, citing security concerns.

Under the notification, outdoor use of drones will remain prohibited during the restriction period. However, small drones may be used for covering events held inside halls and marquees, subject to safety measures by event organisers.

Intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the ban.

The Home Department has also established district-level Safe Drone Usage Committees to grant written permissions for approved drone operations.

The committees will consider applications for drone use related to agriculture, irrigation and research activities.

Drone operations authorised in writing by the relevant committee will remain exempt from the restrictions.

The ban was imposed by the Punjab Home Secretary under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

Provincial authorities and police have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order across Punjab.
