“Pitso Must Stop Selecting Pirates Players” – Mokoena Sends Strong Message to Bafana Coach

Lebohang “Cheeseboy” Mokoena has questioned Pitso Mosimane’s approach to selecting and using Orlando Pirates players in the Bafana Bafana setup, arguing that the national team coach should be consistent with the style and combinations he wants to implement.

Mokoena’s comments come amid discussions about Mosimane’s tactical preferences and his use of players from different clubs. The former Bafana international believes Mosimane’s recent remarks gave the impression that he would prefer to have a team dominated by Mamelodi Sundowns players because of their familiarity with his tactical ideas.

“Pitso must stop selecting Pirates players if he wants to play like Sundowns,” Mokoena said.

He questioned why Mosimane would select players such as Oswin Appollis and Kamogelo Sebelebele if their natural qualities are not going to be fully utilised.

According to Mokoena, if the coach wants to rely on established combinations from Sundowns, he could consider using Tashreeq Matthews alongside players who already understand his movements at club level.

“What Pitso Mosimane said came out like if he had a choice he would’ve taken the whole Mamelodi Sundowns team,” Mokoena explained.

He also pointed to Appollis’ relationship with Aubrey Modiba and suggested that other tactical combinations could be explored.

Mokoena further argued that Thabang Matuludi could have been considered on the right, particularly if Mosimane believes Sebelebele should not push forward because his attacking ability is one of the qualities that earned him recognition at international level.

The former midfielder also proposed another possible solution involving Thapelo Maseko and Appollis.

“He could’ve even switched Maseko on the right with Appollis so he can play along with Sebelebele, who doesn’t cut in and who would understand Appollis better because they play together at club level,” he said.

However, Mokoena’s biggest concern appears to be how Mosimane communicates his tactical views publicly.

“Pitso’s words always leave some bitter taste to swallow. He must watch what he’s saying before he divides the camp,” Mokoena concluded.

His comments are likely to fuel further debate among South African football supporters over Mosimane’s selection decisions, tactical approach and the balance between club combinations and individual player strengths in the national team.
