Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was installed as the new Omukama of Tooro at around 1 a.m. Tuesday in a series of traditional rituals held at Karuziika Royal Palace in Fort Portal City. His installation followed an overnight procession that began at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday from Rwengoma Palace and passed through Fort Portal town centre, with thousands of jubilant subjects accompanying the new king.

The king was escorted by royal guards, traditionalists and his subjects, who illuminated the procession with traditional lamps made from reeds. Fort Portal town remained crowded throughout the night as thousands of people gathered to witness the historic transition. Security personnel restricted access to Karuziika Palace as crowds gathered around the royal residence. URN brings you the journey in pictures.
