Kalonzo Reveals His Position After Gachagua’s Fresh Claims on Ruto Deal

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has responded to renewed claims of possible secret dealings between him and President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Through a statement issued by the Wiper Patriotic Front, the party said Kalonzo had no agreement or plans to enter into an arrangement with the President.

Wiper maintained that its position had not changed, insisting that Kalonzo remains committed to pursuing his political path independently ahead of the next election.

“Let it be stated without ambiguity; the Wiper Patriotic Front has no dealings, no understanding, and no intention of working with Ruto,” the party stated.

The party further said Kalonzo’s political path was independent and that he would face Ruto at the ballot on August 10, 2027.

The clarification followed remarks by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, who recently raised concerns about the commitment of one of the opposition principals to the coalition.

Speaking to Kenyans living in Texas during his tour of the United States on Sunday, September 27, Gachagua said one of the principals could leave the opposition coalition after the eventual presidential candidate is selected.

“One single presidential candidate will be announced. One person will go away; that one person will go away on his own,” Gachagua said.

His remarks triggered public discussion, with some people linking the comments to Kalonzo.

Wiper has, however, rejected any suggestion that its leader is preparing to work with Ruto, reiterating that it has no arrangement with the President.

The party’s statement also comes as opposition leaders continue positioning themselves ahead of the process of settling on a single presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Several political figures have been associated with the opposition’s search for a joint candidate, including Kalonzo, Gachagua, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Justin Muturi, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang’i and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

The opposition’s efforts to settle on a single candidate have been accompanied by discussions among the various principals as they seek to consolidate their respective political bases.

Gachagua’s recent remarks have added another layer to those discussions, particularly over whether all the principals would remain within the coalition after the presidential candidate is selected.

For its part, Wiper has used the latest statement to reaffirm Kalonzo’s position, dismissing the claims of an agreement with Ruto and maintaining that the party will continue with its stated political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
