Four Convicted In Dowry Harassment Case

NELLORE: A Naidupeta court has convicted four persons in a 2018 domestic violence and dowry harassment case, sentencing the prime accused to one year in prison and imposing fines on all four.

Judicial First Class Magistrate P. Meenakshi Sundari found the accused guilty after examining the witnesses. A1, Cheerala Prasad, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment and fined ₹5,000. A2 Cheerala Prameelamma, A3 Cheerala Prabhakar and A4 Cheerala Vijayamma were each fined ₹2,000.

The case was registered by Naidupeta police in 2018 after Cheerala Aruna Kumari complained that her husband, Prasad, and his family members had allegedly subjected her to harassment and violence demanding additional dowry.

Police registered a case under Sections 498A and 324 of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. After investigation, police filed a chargesheet before the court, which convicted the four accused.
