Confirmed Ghana lineup for Gambia clash

According to report by Thebbcghnana on Tuesday 29, September 2026, Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has made three changes to his starting lineup as Ghana prepare to face The Gambia in a crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

Benjamin Asare has been given the nod to start in goal, replacing Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who came under scrutiny following Ghana’s opening goal conceded during the Black Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké.

The game marks Asare’s first start for Ghana since the World Cup clash against Croatia in June 2026. The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper will be hoping to take advantage of the opportunity and strengthen his claim for the starting position.

Gideon Mensah will captain the team from left-back, while Jonas Adjetey joins Jerome Opoku in central defence following the absence of injured defender Alexander Djiku. Kojo Oppong Peprah retains his position at right-back.

In midfield, Queiroz has maintained the partnership between Kwasi Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi as Ghana seek to improve their control and creativity in the middle of the pitch.

The most notable changes have come in attack, with Felix Ohene Afena-Gyan joining Brandon Thomas-Asante in a two-man forward line. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Ernest Nuamah also start, while Christopher Bonsu Baah drops to the bench.

Ghana, who lost their opening Group C fixture, will be aiming to secure their first points of the qualifying campaign and respond strongly against The Gambia.
