CM Joseph Vijay Praises Daring Cop

 Chennai: Paying encomiums to M Velmurugan, the head constable of Kovilpalayam police station whose daring feat of hanging on to the roof of a vehicle smuggling contraband goods like Gutka for 40 km when it tried to escape for the police without stopping at the Kaniyur toll gate had earned the praise of the common people, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay called him to the Secretariat and expressed his appreciation while advising to be careful in performing his duties.

The incident led to the arrest of 3 persons who were inside the vehicle stacked with the contraband goods as Velmurugan courageously hanged onto the roof despite the driver’s attempts to shake him off from his precarious perch. The police vehicles that followed the fugitive vehicle from Vilankurichi could stop it with the help of other police vehicles requisitioned for the chase only at Avinashi.

Since the video of the policeman hanging to the roof went viral, members of the public started praising the policeman for his bravery, which led to the arrest of three persons and the seizure of the contraband, it drew the attention of the Chief Minister, who handed over a gift to the head constable after appreciating for his daring act.
