Bad News for All Safaricom Users as Company Warns Them Against Making This Mistake

Safaricom has warned Fuliza customers against repeatedly opting out of the service in an attempt to increase their borrowing limits.

The warning followed a customer’s experience after he reportedly tried to manipulate the Fuliza system by leaving the service and signing up again, hoping the process would result in a higher borrowing limit. Instead, he was left with a zero limit when he needed Fuliza to pay for transport.

Responding to the issue, Safaricom explained that customers who opt out of Fuliza and later return are subjected to a new eligibility assessment. Rejoining the service is treated as a fresh registration, meaning the customer’s account is reviewed again before a new limit is assigned.

As a result, a customer who previously had an active Fuliza limit could receive a lower amount after rejoining or, depending on the assessment, receive no borrowing limit at all.

The clarification is important for M-Pesa users who depend on Fuliza to meet short-term financial needs. It also highlights the risks of attempting to manipulate the service’s opt-in and opt-out process.

Safaricom has previously explained that Fuliza limits are determined automatically using various aspects of a customer’s relationship with the company. These include M-Pesa transactions, airtime purchases, calls, data usage and other Safaricom services.

Customers who believe their limits should be reviewed can use the official Fuliza menu and select the “Refresh My Limit” option. However, requesting a review does not guarantee that the borrowing limit will increase, as the final decision remains subject to the automated assessment.

The latest incident has generated discussion among Kenyan M-Pesa users, with some customers sharing their own experiences of changing Fuliza limits.

For customers looking to maintain or potentially improve their access to Fuliza, the company’s explanation indicates that repeatedly opting out and rejoining is not a reliable way to obtain a higher limit. Instead, customers should use the official channels and continue managing their accounts and repayments responsibly.

The experience serves as a reminder that changes to Fuliza eligibility can occur whenever a customer undergoes a fresh assessment, and a previous limit is not necessarily guaranteed after rejoining the service.
