ATC fixes October 6 for Imaan Mazari, husband’s indictment

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad has fixed October 6 for the indictment of lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, in a case involving alleged violence against police and violation of protocol.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra heard the case, with Mazari and Chattha appearing through video link. Defence lawyers Riasat Ali and Zainab also appeared before the court.

The court provided copies of the challan to the defence and fixed the next hearing for framing charges against the accused.

The case has been registered at Secretariat Police Station.

Meanwhile, another ATC issued notices on the couple’s bail petitions in a separate protest case registered at Kohsar Police Station.

ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain directed the parties to appear for arguments on the bail applications on October 5.

During the hearing, former federal minister Shireen Mazari claimed that the accused were produced before the court after it was opened at night.

The judge clarified that the court had not been opened specifically at night, saying proceedings were already underway when he was informed that a remand matter was being brought before him.
