A Married Pastor Confesses to defiling and Impregnating a Schoolgirl Before Being Jailed for 30 Years

Details have emerged on how a pastor from Kilifi lured a schoolgirl, defiled her and made her pregnant, before he confessed after DNA tests linked him to the pregnancy.

The married man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after a court found him guilty of defiling his cousin, then aged 15, on two separate occasions. Prosecutors said the offences occurred between June 2023 and February 2024.

The case came to light when the girl became pregnant.

Her mother reported the matter to police, and a hospital confirmed the pregnancy.

A government analyst told the court that DNA results showed a 99.9 per cent probability that the pastor was the father of the child.

Testifying in June 2024, when she was 16, the girl said the accused was her cousin and a pastor at her church.

She told the court he invited her in mid-2023 to join him and his wife for fasting and prayers meant for spiritual cleansing.

She said she was given supper and slept in a room with his two children. She was later woken and abused as his wife silenced her, and he threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She went home traumatised the next morning and kept quiet.

Two weeks later, he persuaded her to return, claiming a vision showed prayers were needed to stop her from marrying someone who was not a Christian.

After prayers at his church, he invited her and another girl for tea, sent the other girl home and kept her for night prayers.

The pastor first denied the charge, then admitted the act but claimed he had been coerced and did not know her age.

Chief Magistrate James Mwaniki rejected this as baseless and an afterthought.

He convicted the pastor under Section 8(1), read with Section 8(3), of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006, saying prosecutors led by Winnie Atieno Otieno proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The law sets a minimum of 20 years for defiling a child aged 12 to 15. Child abuse can be reported free on 116.
