If you’ve ever longed to reconnect with the heart and heritage of Ghana, the 2026 ‘Back to Your Village’ Food Festival promises an experience unlike any other.
Set to take place on March 28–29 at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, the festival is billed as a celebration of culture, community, and cuisine—a journey into the very soul of Ghanaian life.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, March 23, 2026, Samuel Attah-Mensah, Managing Director of Citi FM and Channel One TV, explained that the festival goes far beyond a mere showcase of food.
“We are just adding the culinary experience, connecting Ghanaians with music, dance forms, storytelling… it is more like your typical festival, but you have the food as the anchor,” he said.
Step Into Ghanaian Village Life
What sets this festival apart is its bold effort to recreate the Ghanaian village experience in vivid detail. Attendees will wander through distinct ethnic “villages,” each pulsating with its own rhythm, identity, and flavour. From the energetic beats of a Ga band to the mesmerizing movements of a Borborbor troupe, every corner tells a story of Ghana’s rich traditions.
“We want to depict the village setting… so you will have a Ga band, Borborbor group, and others,” Attah-Mensah said.
Eat, Immerse, Belong
The festival isn’t just about watching performances—it’s about participating in a living cultural tapestry. Each village will feature its own designated dining area, allowing visitors to purchase traditional meals and enjoy them in the very spaces where these cultures come alive.
“All the villages are clearly demarcated with their own eating space, where patrons can buy the food, sit and eat in a particular village,” he explained.
The commitment to authenticity extends beyond food. Vendors will offer traditional cookware—grinding stones, earthenware bowls, and other items that evoke the communal and cultural essence of cooking in Ghanaian villages.
“We are arranging with some people who will sell traditional cookware, grinding stones, earthenware bowls, and others,” Attah-Mensah added.
A Celebration Against Cultural Amnesia
Running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, the festival is more than leisure—it is a cultural reawakening. According to Attah-Mensah, it also serves as a conscious pushback against the growing dominance of Western food culture.
“We have been hoodwinked by the western media to give a sense of superiority to western food… but we realised that it is a ‘419’ scam. So we decided to go back to our village,” he remarked.
Unlike conventional food festivals, this event restores the original tastes, rhythms, and stories of Ghanaian upbringing, offering a rare opportunity for visitors to reconnect with their roots.
