The US Embassy has organised a one-day AI training session for  over one hundred participants in partnership with Google Ghana, a leader in AI research and application, American Spaces and the Regional Environment, Science, Technology and Health Hub Office for West and Central Africa.

The participants, from four cities in West Africa; Accra, Monrovia, Lagos and Abuja, were engaged on Artificial Intelligence (AI) training aimed at enhancing knowledge on the use of the technology.

Head of Google Research Accra, Perry Nelson, who took the participants through the training emphasised that AI is meant to augment human capabilities, not replace them.

Mr. Nelson further highlighted Google’s 30-year history of AI innovation and encouraged users to leverage AI tools effectively.

“AI can’t rob people of their jobs, but rather enhance their work efficiently when used properly,” Perry Nelson said.

He advised against blindly relying on AI-generated content, urging users to review and refine AI outputs to ensure quality and accuracy. “The usage of the technology underscores the importance of upskilling and adapting to AI-driven workflows. As AI continues to transform industries, there is a need for a shift on how we preserve the use of the technology.”

Participants applauded the US Embassy and it partners for the training programme to enhance their AI literacy, including understanding AI development and governance.
