Gov’t to roll out multi-agency real-time verification system

The government is set to roll out an advanced real-time verification system connecting multiple state agencies to strengthen security, accountability, and public service delivery, following an audit that revealed zero matches between fingerprint data from 2021–2023 SIM registrations and the national identity database.

Communications Minister, Samuel Nartey George explained that the initiative integrates data from several institutions, allowing for seamless verification across government platforms.

“We’ve worked not just with the NIA; we’ve worked with the NIA to ensure that we have a seamless real-time verification against their database something that didn’t exist the last time,” he said, in an interview on TV3 on Saturday March 22.

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) according to him, will provide real-time information on company directors, enabling officials to link Ghana Card details of business owners to all registered business SIMs. This measure he affirmed ensures transparency and accountability in corporate operations.

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) is also incorporated, providing entry and exit records for foreigners applying for services, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) facilitates verification for diplomats and embassy staff using official ministry-issued IDs.

Sam George added that the system involves the police and other state agencies to guarantee robustness, highlighting a multi-layered approach to public sector verification.

“We’re working with multiple state agencies, including the police, to ensure the system is robust enough,” he said.
