‘Ghanaians shouldn’t take the freedom they are enjoying for granted’ — Gomoa Central DCE

The Gomoa Central District Assembly in the Central Region joined the rest of the country last Friday to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Day, with a call on citizens not to take the nation’s freedom for granted.

Delivering an address at the celebration held at Gomoa Abaasa, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central, Hackman Kobina Aidoo, reminded Ghanaians that the independence and liberties they enjoy today were achieved through sacrifice and determination.

“As we celebrate this historic day, let us remember that the freedom we are enjoying today was not handed to us on a silver platter. It was earned through intense struggle, sacrifice and determination.

“Our brave forefathers who courageously stood against injustice demonstrated extraordinary resilience and courage to secure the rights and liberties we cherish today. We must preserve, protect and strengthen this legacy and pass it on to generations yet unborn,” he said.

Speaking on the theme, “Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope,” Mr Aidoo said the theme goes beyond ceremony and represents the policy direction of the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

According to him, the theme reflects Ghana’s past struggles, acknowledges the challenges the country has endured and expresses confidence in the nation’s future direction.

He described the theme as a call for collective action, urging citizens to work together toward national development and improved living conditions.

Mr Aidoo highlighted some flagship initiatives of the government aimed at transforming the economy and improving livelihoods. He mentioned the 24 hour economy policy, which he said is intended to support local businesses, reduce taxes and promote economic growth.

He also cited other initiatives such as the Women’s Bank and the National Apprenticeship Programme, which are designed to create opportunities and improve the lives of citizens.

The DCE used the occasion to encourage the youth, particularly those in the Gomoa Central District, to take advantage of these programmes to build better futures for themselves.

“I wish to assure the people of Gomoa Central that as the representative of President John Dramani Mahama, I am fully committed to providing inclusive and accountable leadership.

“I will work to ensure that every citizen benefits from the development of the district by promoting fairness, transparency and equity in the distribution of the Assembly’s resources.

“My goal is to ensure that no community is left behind and that the gains of development are felt in households across the district,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, also addressed the gathering and disclosed that he is working with the District Assembly and the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to improve the standard of education in the constituency.

The celebration featured a march past by students from selected basic and senior high schools.

Among the dignitaries present were the Gomoa Central Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Kofi Afful, the Gomoa Central District Director of the Ghana Education Service, Theodora Abaloo, and Kweku Nyarko Koomson, an official of the Ghana Education Service in the district.
