Police pay N22.3m to 16 families of fallen officers in BenueThe Nigeria Police Force has presented N22.3 million in cheques to the families of 16 personnel who died in active service in Benue State.
The presentation was made on Friday in Makurdi to the next of kin of the deceased officers.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ifeanyi Emenari, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds.
Emenari said the money was drawn from the police welfare schemes — Group Life Assurance and Group Accident benefits.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Mohammed Yakubu, the commissioner conveyed the command’s condolences to the families of the deceased personnel.
According to him, although money cannot replace the lives of the fallen officers, the payment would help cushion the effect of their death on their families within the first year of the loss.
He advised the beneficiaries to invest the funds in businesses that would help them become self-reliant while awaiting other entitlements from the force.
“I take this opportunity to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice made by our brave police officers who gave their lives in service to our dear country.
“On behalf of the Benue State Police Command, I express condolences to you and pray that Almighty God will grant you the fortitude to bear the loss.
“We recognise your loss and assure you that your loved ones’ service will not be forgotten.
“We pray for your comfort and strength during this difficult time. May God bless the families of our fallen heroes and the entire police community,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Happiness Sale thanked the force for its continued support to personnel even after death.
