Navy Officer to swim 3.1km non-stop to support special needs project

A 23-year-old Able Seaman Class 2, Sarah Precious Akutor of the Naval Logistics Command in Takoradi, is preparing to set a remarkable record by swimming 3.1 kilometres non-stop from Busua to Abokwa Island in the Western Region.

Speaking to Citi News, Akutor explained that the challenge aims to raise funds in support of the Chief of Defence Staff’s initiative to build a centre for children with special needs.

She added that the effort is also meant to empower women and highlight their resilience.

The Wave of Hope swimming challenge is scheduled to be officially launched on Monday, November 17, 2025. Akutor will undertake the swim on Friday, November 21.

She appealed to the public for support as she prepares for the record attempt.
