The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has dismissed allegations that the Ghana Police Service denied a police officer access to medical care.
The claims emerged after a video circulated on social media showing an officer with a swollen leg who alleged that the Service had abandoned him following an accident at Asante Mampong.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on Thursday, November 13, 2025, the IGP explained that the officer received treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital before being transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra.
Doctors at the Police Hospital, he said, advised that the officer’s leg be amputated below the knee to save his life. The officer and his family, however, declined the procedure and chose to seek alternative treatment, a decision the medical team respected.

“The foot got worse, and he later decided to publish his condition in the media,” Mr. Yohuno stated. “The Ghana Police Service has never denied any officer access to healthcare.”
The IGP added that he only became aware of the situation after the video appeared online. He said the Police Administration is working to contact the officer and his family to discuss the next steps.
Mr. Yohuno reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, emphasising that every officer is entitled to quality healthcare.
