A dramatic gun battle broke out at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region when armed robbers attempted to break into the Microfin Rural Bank in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025.
According to police, the heavily armed gang stormed the bank around 1:50 a.m., overpowering and tying up four security officers on duty before breaking into the premises.
The robbers were reportedly preparing to loot cash when a police patrol team arrived at the scene.
Sensing danger, the gang opened fire on the officers, sparking a fierce exchange of gunshots.
Chief Inspector Isaac Entie, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, told Adom News that the robbers fled after realizing they had been outgunned by the police.
Items retrieved at the scene included two empty BB cartridges, iron bars, a saw blade, cutting plates, new padlocks, a pump machine gun, cartridges, and a set of door lockers.
He added that although the bank’s doors and windows were badly damaged, the robbers were unable to steal any money due to the swift police intervention.
Chief Inspector Entie further disclosed that the four security officers who were tied up by the suspects were rescued unharmed. Police have since launched a manhunt for the fleeing gang.
He assured residents that the Command will intensify patrols to clamp down on armed robbery activities in the area.
