Mahama Unveils 26 Bold Policies to Transform Ghana in First 120 Days

Former President John Dramani Mahama, now President-elect following Ghana’s 2024 general elections, has unveiled an ambitious 26-point agenda for his first 120 days in office.

This policy blueprint is designed to address pressing economic challenges, restore social stability, and lay the groundwork for sustainable development.

Key among Mahama’s policies is a robust economic stabilization plan aimed at reducing inflation, boosting investor confidence, and stabilizing the Ghanaian cedi.

He plans to establish a National Economic Recovery Task Force comprising experts from various sectors to recommend actionable solutions within his first month in office.

Additionally, Mahama has pledged to reintroduce the “Jobs for the Youth” initiative to tackle rising unemployment, particularly among graduates.

To address the high cost of living, Mahama intends to suspend the controversial Value Added Tax (VAT) on essential goods, including food and fuel. This policy, he argues, will provide immediate relief to struggling households while stimulating consumer spending.

Mahama’s agenda emphasizes accountability and transparency in governance. Within the first 120 days, he has promised to reconstitute the Special Prosecutor’s Office and provide it with adequate resources to investigate and prosecute corruption cases effectively.

He also plans to introduce new legislation to protect whistleblowers and strengthen public sector ethics. To ensure inclusivity, Mahama intends to appoint a Gender Equity Council tasked with promoting women’s participation in politics and decision-making.This initiative reflects his broader commitment to addressing gender inequality. Mahama aims to accelerate infrastructure projects, with a focus on improving roads, healthcare, and education.

He has pledged to complete stalled projects under the “E-Komputer” initiative to provide every public school with functional ICT facilities.

In healthcare, he plans to expand the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to cover a broader range of diseases and ensure timely payments to service providers.

Social welfare is another priority. Mahama has outlined plans to establish a National Housing Scheme targeting low-income earners and implement a pension scheme for informal sector workers.

Recognizing the importance of regional stability, Mahama has pledged to collaborate with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address security threats. Internationally, he aims to strengthen ties with development partners to attract funding for critical sectors.
