Police probe alleged destoolment of Kwahu Adontenhene

The police have commenced investigations into a clash that left six persons injured in Kwahu Abetifi in the Eastern region.

The clash allegedly ensued after a group of armed men stormed the Abetifi Palace to destool Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour, Asiedu Agyemang III, who is now acting as the President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

The men, initially believed to be National Security operatives, reportedly escorted Yaa Asantewaa, posturing as the Abrewatia of the Kwahu area, to the Abetifi Palace, where they detained the acting President of the Kwawu Traditional Area.

Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men then forcefully ushered Akyemfour Agyemang III to an older palace nearby, where she allegedly performed some traditional rites aimed at destooling him with the slaughtering of a sheep in the ritual.

News of the purported destoolment went viral in the area, and the youth of the area massed up armed with machetes.

It took the timely intervention of local law enforcers and a reinforcement team made up of police and military personnel to prevent further violence and the situation from escalating.
