The assistant coach of Sudan, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has denied reports that there was an altercation between his side and the Black Stars technical team during the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.

During the post-match press conference, Sompa FM journalist Atta Poku asked Osei-Fosu about an altercation he saw in which one of the Black Stars technical team members head-butted the Sudanese coach.

In response to the claim, Osei-Fosu stated that because his attention was on the match, he did not notice that such an incident took place during the game.

The Sudan assistant coach, who happens to be Ghanaian, further noted that even if such a thing took place, it should not be a focus because it is part of the sport.

During the press conference, Atta Poku asked, “We are trying to put our match report together, but the sticking point is that we saw there was an altercation, so we want a final clarification. Were you head-butted by any Ghana technical team members? If yes, what do you have to say about it?”

Osei-Fosu responded, “Let’s leave it because it is part of the game. Did it even happen? I did not feel it because at that time there were five minutes left in the game, and we could not afford to lose. So I was not concerned about that. If you saw it, that is fine.”

The Black Stars’ goalless draw against Sudan in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers has left the team with two points from three matches.

The second match against Sudan will take place in Libya on October 14, 2024.
