Why are you being more political than Akufo-Addo?

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu did not hold back in his criticism of Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare over the handling of the arrested protestors by officers of the Ghana Police Service.

Martin Kpebu reckons that the conduct of the police regarding the arrests and manhandling of the suspects is due to a resolve by Dr. Dampare to appease President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on TV3, Martin Kpebu directed his anger at Dr. Adam Bonaa, whom he claims is a friend of the IGP, and instructed him to advise his friend.

Kpebu cautioned Dr. Dampare that Ghana is not his personal property and that it is a country with laws and laid-down procedures for handling suspects.

“Tell Dampare that Ghana is not his personal property. How can you supervise such a police service? Tell Dampare that Ghana is not his personal property. Why is he being more political than Akufo-Addo? He is more interested in pleasing Akufo-Addo because they said he will sack him. They are just doing stupid things,” he said.

Martin Kpebu’s fury was sparked by the arrest and subsequent prosecution of some demonstrators who were part of the anti-galamsey protest organized by Democracy Hub.

The three-day protest, themed #OccupyJulorbiHouse and #StopGalamsey, took a different turn on the second day when protesters allegedly blocked roads around the 37 intersection in Accra, obstructing traffic.

They have since been charged by the prosecution with unlawful assembly and breach of peace, among other offenses.
