Guinness World Record provides clarification on why Afua Asantewaa was disqualified –

The Guinness World Record (GWR) has given clarification on why it disqualified Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon.

On Friday, February 23, 2024, the Guinness World Record announced that Afua’s attempt to break the longest singing marathon was disqualified.

“Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans. The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts.”

The news was met with mixed reactions because a section of Ghanaians were hopeful of Afua breaking the record considering the fact that a detailed reason was not provided for the disqualification.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, reacting to the disqualification, indicated that she would announce her further action.

“The news of the outcome of my Sing-a-thon attempt came few minutes as I was preparing to host a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network attended by the President President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I would announce my next line of action in few days. Thank you all for your love and support. When life hands you lemons, turn them to lemonade. Success is sweetest when snatched out of the jaws of defeat.”

A probe by www.ghanabusinessnews.com has provided a clarification from Guiness World record on why her attempt was disqualified.

“Unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the Longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.

This was due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records. We’ve seen how inspirational Afua’s attempt has been for her fans and we wish her the best of luck with any future record attempts.”
