News In: Popular ODM Governor in Trouble as Court Orders Recounting of Votes in the County

Busia County Governor Paul Nyongesa Otuoma is living on borrowed time after the court ordered a recount of votes in 10 polling stations in Busia.

This was after ex-MP John Bunyasi filed a case challenging Governor Otuoma’s win in the August election. The former Nambale Member of Parliament had filed the petition at the Busia High Court over what he termed as election irregularities.

“I have taken necessary legal action as prescribed by the law. I was not satisfied with the outcome of an election, I have enough evidence to prove in court that my competitor used unfair means to win the election,” stated Bunyasi when defending his petition.

This was after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced Otuoma of ODM party as the winner on August 12 after he reportedly garnered 164, 478 votes against Bunyasi of ANC who finished second with 92,144 votes.

In the petition, Bunyasi had listed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Governor Otuoma and his deputy Arthur Odera as respondents.

Already, Otuoma has announced his intentions to dump Raila Odinga and work with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government, saying it is for the good of his Siaya people.

“I appeal to you that we join forces and work with government together so that we also enjoy the fruits of our national government,” stated Otuoma recently
