A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ose Anenih has expressed confidence that the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, would have won on first ballot if the 2023 presidential election projections by the Thisday newspaper included the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Recall that the projections by the Thisday predicted a run-off election. They claimed Atiku is leading other candidates and he’s sure of getting the required 25% in 23 states across the country. A candidate needs 25% in 24 states across the country to win on first ballot.
But reacting to the Thisday projection of Focus Nigeria, Ose Anenih said,
“I’ve actually sent a message to the Thisday editor because what they did was that they said Atiku only gets 23 states. And he needs 25% in 24 states to be declared President and that’s why they are predicting a run-off. But they didn’t include the FCT, if they had included the FCT in their prediction, the PDP has always scored above 25% in the FCT.
So if they had included the FCT, then Atiku by their own projection would have met the constitutional requirements of 25% in two-thirds of the states.”
