Buhari’ll Hand Over A Secured Nation To Nigerians—Army Chief

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Faruk Yahaya has disclosed that the Nigerian Army is focused on attaining the marching order of President Muhammad Buhari to improve the security situation in the country so that he (Buhari) can hand over a better nation to his successor.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 231 trainees of the 2nd batch of the NAOWA Youth Development Project in Abuja, the COAS said, “Now our security situation is improving and we are not relenting. The marching order, of Mr. President, is for us to improve the security situation so that he can hand over a nation better secured. 

“That is why we are marching on along with other security agencies. You can see the results and there will be no letdown. All hands are on deck. “Coupled with the equipment and other enabled weaponry provided by Mr. President, and the commitment of the Nigerian army in particular which I command, the cooperation of other security agencies and also the cooperation of the good people of Nigeria who are now keying in and giving valid information, which is key in our operation’s, these security challenges will soon be a thing of the past.

GEJ Call For Withdrawal of N’Honours from Bearers with Questionable Characters

Former Nigerian President, Dr. GoodLuck Ebele Jonathan has called for the drawal of National Honours given to those found wanting in character and conduct and applauds Governor David Umahi for excellent performance.

The former president said this yesterday night while he receive the honor of Grand Commander, Ebonyi Hall of Fame, GCEHF in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital. He however called for a legal amendment empowering the federal government to withdraw national Honours from holders found wanting in character and conduct.

“Talking about awards, I want to say, probably, when we are making laws, at the federal level, there should be an amendment empowering the president or the State Governors to strike off such Honours” While pledging the indebtedness of the honorees to Ebonyi State for the gestures, Jonathan commended Governor Umahi saying, “Mr Governor, you are doing well, you have performed.”

2023 budget: N’Assembly uncovers errors, delays passage

The National Assembly on Thursday failed to pass the 2023 Appropriations bill as earlier scheduled. Indications of this emerged when the budget report was not listed on the Order Paper for Thursday’s legislative activities.

Shortly after a closed-door session that lasted 15 minutes, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said that due to irreconcilable figures detected by Appropriations committees of both chambers, the National Assembly would not be able to deliberate on the 2023 budget as earlier scheduled on Thursday.

Lawan said as a result of the long cleaning process the draft budget proposal underwent, Committees on Appropriations from both Chambers, couldn’t meet up with the submission of the report for consideration and passage today.

ICYMI: Two Nigerian peacekeepers killed in Mali, says UN

The United Nations says two Nigerian peacekeepers were killed in an attack on a patrol team near Timbuktu in Mali.

The peacekeepers were killed on December 16 and their remains are expected to be transported to Nigeria after a memorial service by UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

Apart from the male and female peacekeepers, four other blue helmets from MINUSMA were also injured in the attack. Benjamin Olafaju, head of the chancery at the Nigeria mission to the UN, told NAN that the memorial will be held on Friday(today) at the parade ground, MINUSMA headquarters, Bamako.
