“They Expect South East People to Clap as if Only They Will Use the 2nd Niger Bridge” -Chuks Akunna

The Authority Newspaper’s executive director, Chuks Akunna, has voiced his concerns about the southeast region’s residents and the federal initiatives being carried out there. Speaking on AIT News, Akunna contrasted the FG project with what is offered in the nation’s other geographical regions.

“President Buhari flagged off the Eastern Railway Corridor last year,” Akunna stated in response to the topic, There were celebrations and promises. Though they are stating they can’t complete the job just a few months before their contract expires. What commitment has the Buhari administration made good on?

Look at the second Niger Bridge, he said further. The Benue Bridge between Loko and Oweto, Nasarawa State, was replaced with a larger bridge. Nobody has made a political comment or created a stir, though. The process was done discretely. However, they act as though Southeasters will be the only people using the bridge when they demand applause from the region when a bridge is built there.

Do they not reside in this nation? All around the nation, new roads are being constructed, but the only one that requires tolls is the 2nd Niger Bridge. Material things are less significant than symbols.
