A leading Nigerian journalist, Rufai Oseni, has revealed how some politicians took him as their enemy after he questioned their principal’s source of wealth. During his interview on VOP, Oseni discussed the lessons from Doyin Okupe’s ordeal and the need for financial accountability from politicians.
Addressing the topic, Oseni said, “In a sensible country, a politician’s source of wealth should not be a big deal.” I wonder if you can remember the question that put me in enemy territory. I only asked a question in January regarding how a politician made his money. This is how I became people’s enemies. This should not be a big deal as it is public accountability. Nobody was begged to run for president, and those running for the office must embrace open scrutiny.
He continued, “If I decide to run for president someday (which I do not plan to do), I will make my health details and fitness records publicly available.” I owe it to those who I want to lead. However, I do not know why people give contradictory and confusing answers when you question how they made their money. They do this because they are lying.
You may recall that there has been an exchange of words between chieftains of Bola Tinubu’s camp and Arise TV anchors ( Rufai Oseni) over the activities and performance of the APC presidential candidate.
