Okupe Found Guilty, Sentenced To Two Years In Prison.

The Federal High Court Abuja has found Dr Doyin Okupe guilty of receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki and also sentenced him to two years imprisonment.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu while delivering judgement on Monday, held that the action of Okupe, who is the first defendant in the suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), violated the Money Laundering Act. He was found guilty on counts 34 to 59 of the charges.

The court sentenced Okupe, who is the Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, to two years imprisonment on count 34 with an option of a fine of N500,000.

The hope of a truce between Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the aggrieved five governors before next year’s poll has collapsed.

A crucial meeting in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, between the two sides, which their representatives described as final, broke down following irreconcilable differences.

After the talks broke down, the presidential standard bearer decided to look beyond the aggrieved governors and their allies.

Atiku has replaced Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Coordinator of his Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the Southwest.

El-Rufai Condemns Kaura Killings, Condoles Victims’ Families.

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has condemned the attack on two communities in the Kaura Local Government Area of the state which claimed the lives of about 37 people.

In a statement by his Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the governor described the attacks as inhuman, considering the efforts of the government, security forces, the traditional institution and other critical stakeholders within the last week.

He also condoled the people of Malagum and Sokwong communities where attacks occurred, and prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has recommended a College of past Governors from which incumbents will learn on the job.

Soludo spoke at Aguleri, country home of his predecessor Chief Willie Obiano who he paid a Christmas visit on Sunday.
