Former House of Representatives speaker Yakubu Dogara expressed his appreciation for not becoming Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate in the upcoming 2023 presidential election.
In response to a question put to him during a news conference in Bauchi, Dogara said this.

If you want to draw attention away from the stark reality of prebendal politics, which excludes practically half the people, I suppose that’s the only sane thing to say, Dogara retorted.
In hindsight, I am beyond grateful to God that it didn’t happen, and so many friends and well-wishers have also told me that they are grateful to God every day that I am not on the ticket given what they have come to see and know about the candidate. Do you believe that most of Tinubu’s supporters today are blind? While still carrying open graves in their bellies, they prioritized the meal they expected to eat over the national interest.
Dogara warned Nigerians to be cautious of individuals who are supporting the Muslim/Muslim APC ticket.
He was trying to make the point that people who support same-faith voting and same-faith politicians are not just crazy but also dangerous. They are just as dangerous as those who malign entire groups of people and spread intolerance based on race, religion, or other factors.
The truth is that if good people like you and I do not stand up to stop those who are so insane as to think they can stop us from building an inclusive society, they will actually succeed in destroying this country that we adore.
This is why, in a nation like Nigeria that is multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and multi-cultural, I will never support a Christian-Christian ticket or a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
In order for all of us to work together to create this country and make history, we have a responsibility to stand up against those perilous voices of hatred and prejudices.
