LP Postpones Ekiti, Ondo Rallies

The Labour Party has announced the postponement of the presidential campaign rally it planned to hold in Ekiti and Ondo states.

According to a terse statement, the party blamed unavoidable and unusual circumstances beyond its control.

The LP, however, promised to announce new dates for its rally in the states.

The statement read, “Due to some unavoidable and unusual circumstances beyond control, our earlier scheduled presidential campaign rally in Ekiti and Ondo for 15th and 16th December 2023 are hereby postponed. A new date will be announced. We regret the inconvenience caused by this.”

UK To Recruit Teachers From Nigeria, In 2023

The United Kingdom government has listed Nigeria among African countries whose citizens can now apply for qualified teacher status through the Teaching Regulation Agency from February 2023.

Other countries include Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Singapore, South Africa, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.

As a recent update, those who apply for teaching jobs from overseas will require a work visa or other immigration status to allow them to work in the UK. They will also need a skilled worker visa from their employer.

A publication early December on the UK government’s website, by its Department for Education, announced the application for interested non-UK nationals.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West Integrity Youth Group, has called on the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to look into the demands of the five aggrieved governors within the party.

The Convener of the youths group, Fola Awodola, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The protesting governors are led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Others governors are Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia.

Awodola said the PDP presidential rallies held in Akure, Ondo State, and Lagos State were an eyesore and the only way PDP could defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general elections was for the party to be united.

JUST IN: Court voids IGP’s conviction for contempt

A Federal High Court in Abuja has vacated its November 29, 2022 order committing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba to prison for contempt.

Justice Bolaji Olajuwon, in a ruling on Wednesday, held that there was evidence before her court that the IGP has substantially complied with the court’s earlier order directing the reinstatement of Patrick Okoli, who was compulsorily retired as a police office.

Justice Olajuwon held that in view of the development, the application by the IGP, seeking the vacation of the committal order, “is worthy of sympathetic consideration.”

“In view of the substantial compliance with the order of the court and the assurance of ensuring full compliance, the order commuting the applicant, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, is hereby set aside,” she said.

Justice Olajuwon had, in the ruling of November 29 convicted the IGP and sentenced him to a three-month jail term for failing to obey the October 21, 2011 judgment of the Federal High Court reinstating Okoli.
