A Nigerian journalist, Majeed Dahiru, has analyzed the progress of Peter Obi’s presidential bid as next year’s election draws nearer. Speaking on AIT News, Dahiru mentioned the two geopolitical zones where he thinks that Peter Obi is leading.
Addressing the topic, Dahiru said, “Contrary to expectations, an Igbo man, Peter Obi, appears to have appeared strongly on the scene in the race for the presidential election in Nigeria.” In fact, Peter Obi is currently the leading contender for Nigeria’s presidency because he is the only presidential candidate controlling two geopolitical zones: the south-east and the south-south. He is also making solid inroads into the middle belt, northern Nigeria, and parts of the south-west.
He continued, “Peter Obi was endorsed by Adebanjo-led Afenifere group, and this has strengthened the relationship between the south east and the south west.” This shows a wide acceptance for an Igbo son across the country. This appeases the Igbo people, and that is why they have become more emotionally invested in Nigeria and participatory in election activities. They are identifying more with Nigeria due to the show of solidarity and love by the rest of Nigeria for their son. Peter Obi has become the bridge between the Igbos and the rest of Nigeria.
