Inaki Williams could have been the unsung hero, reactions from Sompa 93.1 Sports pundits.

The moment Ghana star Inaki Williams NEARLY writes himself into ‘World Cup folklore’ as he sneaks up on Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa but SLIPS with a chance to equalize deep into stoppage-time… leaving Cristiano Ronaldo stunned

Ghana star Inaki Williams almost shocked Portugal with a dramatic late equalizer in a heart-stopping moment that left Cristiano Ronaldo stunned.

Deep into stoppage time, with the African side trailing Ronaldo’s Portugal 3-2, the Athletic Bilbao forward hid behind goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who had the ball in his hands.

Costa did not check behind him and Williams sneaked up to win the ball when he had rolled it out.

But the 28-year-old slipped at the vital moment and Danilo Pereira cleared off the line as captain Ronaldo put his hand to his head in shock after the lucky escape.

And Sompa 93.1 FM sports pundit JK Maanu claimed he could have ‘written himself into World Cup folklore’ had he managed to keep his footing and score a sensational last-gasp leveler.

He said: ‘Extraordinary. He would have written himself into World Cup folklore. That’s the cheekiest of things to do. The goalkeeper Diogo Costa just doesn’t see him. To slip at the final moment…

He said from a technical point of view, Inaki was just unlucky not to have scored and believed he was in a haste.

“The law says the goalkeeper should keep the ball but once he released it, the striker had every right to hit at goal, he was just unlucky because he was in a hurry, the referee would not have whistled for a foul play, he told Michael Boadu on Sompa FM.

Fellow pundit, Hamza Oben believes the technical team got it wrong on the decision to sub-off Mohammed Kudus, he expressed worry and describes a lack of concentration.

“Lack of concentration cost us, what was Partey thinking, given a sluggish pass and relaxing afterward, Joa Felix is a smart guy, you don’t give such a soft pass and not run afterward when the ball has been given away, you need to give them (Portugal) a conscious play throughout the 90 minutes,” he said.

Lord Opoku Nti couldn’t believe that the technical team will deploy a striker in the midfield, causing the team woefully.

“So you bring in Jordan to play in the middle, even at his club he plays wide on the flanks, now he’s unsettled and receives a soft pass, obviously couldn’t control the ball and gave it away leading to the 3rd goal, who does that, deploying a striker in the middle was just not it, he cried.
