The Ministry of Finance has stated that GH₵340 million has already been spent on the National Cathedral project. In response to the Adhoc Committee looking into Ken Ofori-Atta, the Ministry stated that a total of GH₵339,003,064.86 had been released for the National Cathedral’s construction thus far.
The Ministry claims that the government contributed GH₵25 million to the project in March 2022, which caused a controversy. Numerous religious groups have already given GH₵2.21 million to the National Cathedral’s development.
The Ministry additionally stated in an official document provided to the Adhoc Committee that Messrs Sir David Adjaye and Associates of the UK, had received payments totaling GH₵113,040,654.86 to date.
As part of Ghana’s 60th anniversary festivities, the interdenominational Christian cathedral known as the National Cathedral of Ghana is expected to be constructed in Accra, the country’s capital. President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo announced the cathedral’s design in March 2018.
The Church of Pentecost, which has provided a total of GH₵700,000 to the project through the Church of Pentecost Headquarters (200,000) and The Church of Pentecost (General Headquarters), is the largest donor with a contribution of GH₵500,000.
The Southern Ghana Union of SDA, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, and Action Chapel International, each of which has contributed GH₵200,000, are additional significant supporters.
Other donations include the Methodist Church of Ghana, Triumphant Baptist Church-Kwadaso, Christ Apostolic Church International, the Breaking Yoke Ministry Church, and the Christian Action Faith Ministry contributing GH₵100,000 each.
