It is obvious that many have undergone similar situations in the past, where people who were seen honoring certain call-ups into the Black Stars of Ghana have been treated in such manner. Though it may not be a new thing, there must be a point where these occurrences are given another thought on how it can impact these patriotic individual players and the coming ones in the future.

The Black Star list indicates that few players Felix Afena-Gyan are dropped from Coach Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Yet the issue of Felix Afena-Gyan is one of a concern to many across the country, not just because of his current performance or Inability to score goals but his availability during our critical qualifying match in Abuja. Also because by then, he was very much needed for a game Ghana was not expected to qualify against Nigeria, and for the fact that Ghana was coming from a poor African Nations Cup tournament with some of the same players who are part of the current squad. If it is just for his under performance in the area of goal scoring in recent times, then a number of the current Ghanaian attackers have same problem. Their inability to all score in our last friendlies.

Felix Afena-Gyan is also a concern because of how his situation motivated many young ones, not only in Ghana but outside, especially with the sudden pace in his success. And the need for young ones to keep trusting in what they do, since it may enable them get to higher heights.

As a lay person and by mere watching of the game, you may not need all players to be on top form or performance to win every match. You may also have all the top class players but can loose a game, which happened in 2002 when the Champions France were defeated by a Senegalese side at the World Cup. So clearly, football do not always need all players both on pitch and on bench to be in top class shape to win all games.

In this light, and as a nation, we need to be clear on our negative influence on all sectors our choices on Sport, particularly on our Black Star selections. It is evident on the normal Ghanaian that there is something inappropriately happening within the entire set-up of our Football system. We need to be concern on allowing the Coach to explain on his basis for dropping some players to avoid future turn downs by players when called for such national assignments.
