Veteran Hiplife star Skrewfaze believes the main problem hindering the progress of the music industry is a lack of unity.
Born Jehosephat Eshun, the Ghanaian musician told Nana Yaw Gyebi, host of Adwumapa Mbre on Connect 97.1FM, that unlike their counterparts from Nigeria where there’s massive support and solidarity amongst musicians and industry players, the situation in Ghana is the stark opposite.
“Our structures here are weak. I know our leaders up there are trying, but if you look at the creative arts in Nigeria, it can’t be compared to Ghana. They support each other. It’s not like that here, there’s no unity here.
That’s our problem, we are not one, and we love to fight each other instead of pushing ourselves. We love to downplay everything. Even the gatekeepers are downplaying us. We are not there yet.”

When asked how the situation could be controlled, the musician responded that governmental support is essential for the expansion of the industry.
“We have to check our structures first. We also need the government to invest in art and culture. I’m not talking about music alone. I mean the whole creative arts industry and filmmaking. We need investors then we can think of the way forward. If we dont get investors, we will do what we can do, but it’s just a little. So if we need good structures to attract investors,” he added.
