Management Board of the Ghana Police Service have met with the leadership of the country’s supporters group at the offices of Kenpong Travel and Tours, Accra, the official travel agent for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At the meeting, the Police Service represented by Commissioners of Police (COP) Tabiri, George Mensah and Kofi Boakye offered security advice to the fans on screening of prospective Ghanaian soccer fans before they travel to Qatar this month for the FIFA World Cup.

The peace officers touched on hooliganism and stated emphatically that all hooligans with previous convictions for hooliganism will be denied entry to Qatar.

They also advised that while in Qatar, supporters will be monitored to ensure they abide by laws of conduct of Qatar, and should not attempt to carry illicit drugs or alcohol to Qatar.

It came up at the meeting that prostitution by men and women is prohibited, and also men and women are not supposed to cohabit except legally married couples.

They advised the supporters to be ambassadors of their countries and not engage in any illegal activity.

Last month, the management of Kenpong Travel and Tours held a consultative meeting in Accra with some members of the Management Board of the Ghana Police Service.

The police provided a detailed presentation on the special role they had been given by FIFA and the Legacy Committee for the Qatar World Cup.

Their role includes but not limited to ensuring that prospective soccer fans from Ghana do not have any red-flag placed on them regarding rowdyism, hooliganism and violence at sporting events, including football within Ghana, monitoring and identification of groups with tendencies to cause disruptions at soccer matches, events and activities.
