The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it has scheduled Friday, November 4 as a day of Islamic worship for the Black Stars.
According to the GFA, this forms part of activities ahead of the teamâs participation in this yearâs FIFA World Cup.
In a statement published by the Associationâs official website on Tuesday, the local football governing body said âThis special prayer will be led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu on Friday, November 4, 2022.
Executive Council members, technical and management teams of the Black stars, the staff of the FA, various supporters groups and the general public are all invitedâ.
âThe National Mosque can be located at E Kanda Rd, Accra (Kawukudi)â, it added.
Fridayâs Islamic prayers follow an earlier nationwide fasting and prayers for the team which began on Friday, 21st October, 2022.
Meanwhile, scores of Ghanaians on social media have questioned the relevance of the scheduled prayers for the Black Stars.
According to them, the authorities and handlers of the team must focus more on developing the physical capacities of the players, instead of the announced fasting and prayers.
Others have however lauded the initiative; stating that it is prudent for the country to seek divine intervention ahead of the teamâs participation in this yearâs World Cup tournament.
Ghanaâs participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup fiesta will mark the countryâs fourth participation in the global football event.
In the 2006 and 2010 campaigns, the stars dazzled football lovers with very impressive performances in their games against other competitors.
However, the teamâs last campaign in 2014 was an unsuccessful one, which stirred angst amongst supporters.
Ghanaians are therefore hopeful of brighter prospects in the upcoming tournament which starts in November, this month.
