Joy FM’s Pop Chain Concert raises funds for charity

This year’s edition of Joy FM’s Pop Chain Concert has been held in Accra over the weekend.

It was a great show hosted by Mamavi Owusu Aboagye and B’Lei of Joy FM.

Even the slight drizzle for about 15mins during the show did not deter patrons.

There were great performances from the school bands with Wesley Girls appearing for the first time and rocking the patrons. Holy Child also gave a great performance, making patrons get on their feet.

The next generation youngsters from Martin Luther King School and Adisadel College graced the occasion with style. Guest artistes Paulina Oduro and Lamisi gave some sterling renditions of some great ‘old school’ classics such as ‘Mr Big Stuff’ and ‘I Will Survive’.

The Cancer support network of Ghana founded by Dr Juliet Appiah-Quansah came on stage with a breast cancer survivor Rahmatu Sumani who highlighted her journey from diagnosis to treatment and eradication of the disease.

Juliet addressed the audience on the intricacies of breast cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment.

Patrons also donated in cash and via Expresspay and QR codes.

“The Pop Chain Planning Committee wishes to thank all our sponsors and partners- David Walter Ltd, Ava Coconut Oil, Trinity Oil, Chrisaach Carpets, Millennium Promise Alliance, The Cancer Support Network of Ghana, Rotary Club of Accra Airport, +233 Jazz Bar and Grill and Joy 99.7 FM for their support,” said B’Lei.

“Funds raised will be used for the regional outreach to selected regions to raise awareness of breast cancer. This is planned for November this year and March/April next year,” he added.

Background

The Pop Chain All-Star Concert is an event held annually since 2015, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport and +233 Jazz Bar and Grill.

The collaboration, which is coordinated by Pop Chain Charity Concerts Club seeks to create awareness and raise funds for charity purposes related to the promotion of sound community health in Ghana.

In 2015-2019, five (5) Pop Chain All-Star Concerts were organized to raise GHS 80,000 to support the Joy FM Sugar Project, where community outreach programs on Diabetes Awareness and Screening were conducted in the Central, Eastern and Volta Regions.

About 5,000 persons were screened and those who required further medical attention were referred to the District Health Centres. Glucometers were also donated to some of them for personal monitoring of blood sugar levels. A major partner in the community outreach programs has been the Millennium Promise Alliance.

Between 2022-2026, the Pop Chain All-Star Concerts aim to raise funds to support the Joy FM Breast Cancer Project for community outreach programs on Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening.

The Joy FM Breast Cancer Project aims to create public education and awareness on breast cancer as well as provide screening facilities for breast cancer in community outreach programs, with possible patient referrals for medical attention. The project seeks to bring breast cancer screening to the doorsteps of as many people as possible, to signpost unique cases to appropriate medical facilities.

In addition to the community outreach programs, the Breast Cancer Project is also embarking on a publicity campaign which will consist of television and radio commercials, and a heavy social media presence.

The Joy FM Breast Cancer Project pledges to create breast cancer awareness and to impress heavily the symptoms and effects of breast cancer and provide every Ghanaian with what it takes to live long, live healthy and LIVE RIGHT.
