NDDC Acting MD Appointment Followed Due Process – Host Communities

The Niger Delta’s host villages for oil and gas have come up to correct the false assertion made by a portion of the media that Dr. Emmanuel Audu’s nomination as the Niger Delta Development Commission’s new acting managing director did not adhere to the civil service rule.

The host communities noted that it was unnecessary to make a big deal out of President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent nomination to take the place of Mr. Effiong Akwa, the NDDC’s fired interim sole administrator, as they did.

It was stated that the letter of appointment duly issued by the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Okon Umana, in accordance with the President’s directive, directing the most senior Director in the commission to assume office while a substantive board for the NDDC is appointed, is in accordance with an existing gazette issued by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha and reaffirmed in subsequent releases largely due to cub issues of non compliance.

The group added that this is crucial and must be guarded jealously in light of the region’s and its people’s suffering over the previous five years. The key provisions in the provision state clearly that such officers must not have any pending disciplinary issues.

The chairman of the Board of the Community Development Committees of the Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas made the following statement over the weekend in Port Harcourt: “In the case of the NDDC, it is on record that many of such officers who now claim to be the oldest Directors and were hoping to be named as the Acting Managing Director were all having one form of baggage hanging around their neck while some have countless queries arising from acts of insubordination or truancy.”

“Dr. Emmanuel Audu Ohwavbarua, whose name was publicized, was one of several names that the President received; nonetheless, his name was the only one that requested the appointment be made.

“We must also emphasize that Dr. Emmanuel Audu is well suited to assume leadership and continue operations till a substantive board is appointed.

“These officers with baggage believe it is their right and have organized themselves into an opposition that could thwart the President and the Honorable Minister’s well-intended plans. The NDDC and the area are in a new period, which we must all support.

“We won’t back individuals with dubious morals who have exhibited characteristics capable of undermining trust in their ability to lead such a significant interventionist agency.

Therefore, we implore all of our citizens to support the commission’s direction to the fullest extent possible under the capable direction of the Honorable Minister and Dr. Audu.

“We implore everyone who is striving to sabotage a seamless transition, whether explicitly or secretly, to stop doing so and support the Minister’s efforts to restore the commission to its former glory.

.”There is no question that the CDC is still very focused and are at the forefront to continue to advocate for the enthronement of a substantive board and we shall not rest until that is achieved,” Ambakaderimo said in the statement. “We must only support genuine effort and clear processes that will lead to the aspiration of our people.”

In a related event, Engr. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, the Niger Delta Development Commission’s acting managing director, has vowed to do the right in the Commission moving ahead.

“I am not new to the procedures and processes of the NDDC having worked in practically all operational areas of the Commission,” the acting managing director stated.

“I have experience with the system, therefore I am aware of the circumstances and the processes. I am coming to work with staffs in the NDDC that I am familiar with, especially the senior cadre of the Commission.

The NDDC Chief Executive Officer responded to the devastating flood in the Niger Delta region by asserting that the Commission had a duty to consider the welfare of the populace as an interventionist body.
