Things Are Hard But Let’s Stop Asking For Military Rule

The economic crisis in the country is yet to be dealt with by the managers of the economy. As the crisis gets worse with daily price hikes, some people have started thinking military rule may be better than what the country is experiencing under Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-led New Patriotic Party administration.

Some have cited how Burkina Faso is under military rule but fuel is cheaper there than in Ghana.

However, Joshua Buernortey Boye-Doe popular known as Kalyjay has called on Ghanaians particularly the youth to stop wishing and asking for military rule. Military rule will only send the country backward in decades, he added.

“Charley things hard but I think we should stop flirting with Military rule. This is like sending us 30 years back in time. Yes we dey struggle but Military rule is not the answer.” – Kalyjay tweeted

Some people responded by saying going back thirty years to rebuild a better Ghana may be worth it. The current conditions in the country do not look like they will get better under the current leadership. They lamented.

However, others agreed with Kalyjay and pointed out that Military rule will erode all our democratic gains over the years since the Fourth Republic.

Military rule will be chaotic, there will be no press freedom, and lives could be lost. Also, there was no guarantee that military rule would turn Ghana’s economic fortunes around for the better. As such, it should not be an option. Others advised.

A section of Ghanaians also expressed that though the call for military rule should not be encouraged, Parliament should act now by impeaching the president within the dictates of the constitution to set an example for future governments.

A military rule may not yield any better outcomes for Ghana. Not after enjoying decades of pride in being the beacon of democracy in Africa. We need to collectively work hard to ensure accountability at all levels of governance and punish corrupt officials stringently devoid of party politics.

Corruption in Government and public offices is certainly one of the major contributors to our current economic woes. Till we stand united as Ghanaians, rather than NDC and NPP to weed out corruption, no miracle will ever save our beloved Ghana.
