In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Abigail indicated that she left her marriage after her husband ditched her at the hospital while she was in labour. The divorcee disclosed that they were married at a young age and blamed her decision to leave her marriage on being an irrational young girl.
“We got married after our firstborn, and we were still young at the time. Then I got pregnant with twins a few months after, but I lost them. I went into labour on Tuesday and gave birth on Thursday, but my husband was nowhere to be found.
I told my mom that I would divorce him after giving birth. I wish I were still with him now. I regret it when I look back on the I’ve lived. If I had listened to my parents’ advice to stay in the marriage, it might have helped me,” she said.
Moreover, Abigail stated that she eventually came to Accra to work, but life’s struggles led her into prostitution. According to Abigail, she saw sex work a means to pay her rent. The 36-year-old told the host of Ghetto Life Story, DJ Nyaami, she has slept with about 2000 men and “even more, but it’s changed now. There is no money.”
Despite the regrets of being a sex worker, she can boast of supporting two of her siblings’ education at the secondary level. Abigail added that it had always been a dream to support her younger siblings’ education since she couldn’t get that.
