General Secretary hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says the forthcoming elections in 2024 will not be easy for his party despite the monumental failure of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He says although there is hardship in the country, the ruling NPP cannot be underestimated as they are capable of pulling a “funny trick” to retain power.

“I hear people say the country is hard. Yes it is true. But it doesn’t mean 2024 will be easy for the NDC. It will be tough because these NPP people I know them.

“We have dealt with them before. Even in 2008, it was not easy. They can pull all sorts of funny tricks. So it will not be easy at all. We have to work hard to wrestle power from them” he said.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah made these remarks on Accra-based Asempa FM, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah, a former Sports, Local Government Minister, is seeking to replace Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia as the General Secretary of the NDC.

To achieve this, he however, has to fend off competition to Mr Fiifi Kwetey, former Minister of Transport, and Dr Peter Boamah Otukunor, the incumbent Deputy General Secretary of the NDC.
