Sammy Gyamfi who spoke at the press conference today, Thursday, October 6, 2022 called the comments of Akufo-Addo a bluff. He explained that the president has all the evidence to prosecute those involved in galamsey and yet he has looked on. According to Sammy Gyamfi, one of the evidence that the president has failed to act on is the recent expose about Chairman Wontumi’s Akonta Mining. He questioned why despite all the evidence Akufo-Addo is still quiet and rather choosing to consult with traditional leaders for help.
Sammy Gyamfi noted that Chairman Wontumi needs to be prosecuted for all the destruction he has caused. Sammy alleged that he has heard Wontumi bragging that if he is punished he will cross carpet and campaign for the NDC. In bold words, Sammy Gyamfi told the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman that the NDC do not need him. He explained that the NDC party is not a haven to pamper and train thieves.
“We don’t want you to campaign for the NDC because the party is not a safe haven for thieves. We don’t need you. Stay with the NPP” Sammy Gyamfi said.
Chairman Wontumi is regarded as one of the biggest sponsors of the ruling NPP. The once wannabe Chelsea Club bidder is feared by many in the party and this has given many the reason to believe that this is why he is untouchable. Chairman Wontumi himself has denied being involved in galamsey and has justified it by saying that he has a license. Can Akufo-Addo take action against Wontumi?
