Ghana has always been innovative and exciting when it comes to music – Rocky Dawuni

Reggae musician, Rocky Dawuni has expressed his fondness for Ghana’s innovation and creative process when it comes to music.

In an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz, he said when it comes to music, Africans, especially Ghanaians, have brought big sounds that are being used globally and in different genres.

“Ghana has always been innovative and exciting when it comes to music, I mean our creative level has always been through the roof.

“Not to say other parts of Africa don’t have creative going, but a lot of times, even big cultural innovation or sounds are usually introduced here.”

The ‘Woara’ hitmaker also spoke about how the Afrobeats sound originates from Ghana, through the highlife sound which is now being played globally.

“When you think highlife music and its impact on people like Fela Kuti, his afrobeat foundation is highlife, jazz and funk and that is what afrobeats is.”

Afro Roots artists also added that hip-life has made an impact in African music and is being used in hip-hop sounds.

He also added that Azonto started the afrobeats movements.

“Then we also had azonto here which started the entire afrobeat movements.”
