Epixode shares why top Ghanaian artists are missing on international record labels » ™

Well-known reggae dancehall recording artist and creative director Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo known ell as Epixode has shared why most top Ghanaian artists are not signed on international record labels.

During an interview with Amansan Krakye on Kastle FM, Epixode disclosed that most artists who have put the flag of Ghana on the map with their music are independent artists pushing their way to the top.

He stated “Have you noticed that the names which are taking Ghana music somewhere are all independent artistes but the question is how are they able to do that?

“When the labels are not able to do that and our system isn’t set such that it will support every part of the creative industry in the sense that if a manager takes it upon himself to help you that’s not a label,” he added.

He told Amansan Krakye the host “All these labels that you mentioned I stand to be corrected that most of these artistes on these international labels like universal records, Sony are distribution deals and not 360 deals”.

Epixode advised young and upcoming artists also to try hard to make it in the music space to study how the international record labels work.

He advised on the Kastle Drive Show “These are some of the things upcoming artistes need to teach ourselves because there is a whole difference when it comes to dealing with labels.

“I don’t think Sarkodie has ever been approached with any of these deals but maybe personally looking at where he sets his mind but maybe the label isn’t ready to push him like that,” he explained on the show.
